Vietnam, locally known as ‘The Heart of Southeast Asia’, is a long, thin country bordered by China, Laos and Cambodia. Emerging after decades of internal strife and brutal wars, Vietnam has since become one of the fastest growing economies in the world. It’s economy is more stable than countries like Cambodia and Laos, and the economic redevelopment efforts by the government have contributed to a yearly economic growth of over 10%.
Vietnamese culture is predominantly dominated with hints of its colonized past. Due to long occupation by China, several aspects of the culture and architectural style are heavily influenced by that of Southern China. However, Vietnamese culture has also absorbed aspects of neighboring Hindu cultures like the Champa and Khmer civilizations from Cambodia. The French have left a lasting impact, with Baguettes and coffee being introduced to the local palette, while American influences are visible in dress and behavior.
Vietnam is also fast being recognized as one of the upcoming golfing destinations in the world. Named as the ‘Undiscovered Golf destination of the year’ in 2012, there are 35, professionally designed and challenging courses which make it a must visit spot for both the ardent golf professional as well as the passionate amateur, looking to tee off amidst some spectacular natural landscapes.
